Manipulated Iconic Photos

Writer: lpillalpilla

week 1

The three images below are the images I chose for this exercise.

Richard Hamilton Beatles 2007

As our images had to somewhat be manipulated, I chose John Yuyi cover for the ID magazine, as its simple but shows the technique she uses in her work. Richard Hamiltion Beatles 2007, I saw this piece at the Tate Britain and I love the use of collage. The piece, to me, has a feeling of story telling. The third image I chose, was more on the graphic side, as the vector illustrations show the characters in one of their simplest forms. The use of bright solid colours make the images stand out.

In the lesson we talked about, 'what makes a good iconic image' and this is what we came up with.

Ways to create an iconic image.

1 - Stylise

2 - Surprise

3 - Subvert

4 - Simplify // make graphic

5 - create controversy

6 - Use copy

7 - use context

8 - Create a story

9 - Make it ugly

10 - Make it beautiful
